Privacy & analytics

We count visits to understand what works on this site and where people get stuck. We do it without cookies and without keeping anything that identifies you.

What we record

Which pages and sections you view, for how long they are visible, which links and buttons you click, how far you scroll, the site you came from and any campaign tag on the link, your language setting, and a rough device type, browser and country.

What we do not do

No cookies, and nothing is stored on your device. Your IP address is only used to compute the daily hash described below and is never stored. We do not fingerprint you, and what you type into forms is never recorded.

How visits are told apart

A visit is identified by a one-way hash of your IP address and browser details, mixed with a secret and the date. The hash changes every day, so nobody can be followed from one day to the next.

Accounts and purchases

When an account or a character is created, or a license key is redeemed, we count that it happened, without your email or name. Following a link to Gumroad or itch.io is counted as a click; what happens there is governed by their policies.

Your choice

Because nothing is stored on your device, nothing identifies you and nothing is sold or shared, these counts are made the same way for every visitor, including browsers that send Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. Counts are kept for about four months, in our own database, and are never passed to anyone else.

Your account data

This page is about visit analytics. The details you give when you register (email, name, a password stored only as a hash) are used to run your account and nothing else.
